In a major setback to Lalu Yadav, the Jharkhand High Court has deferred hearing of his bail plea till 27 November. Lalu Prasad Yadav has been living in jail for 42 months.

In a major setback to Lalu Yadav’s hopes, the Jharkhand High Court has deferred his bail hearing till November 27. The Jharkhand High Court bail hearing against Lalu Prasad Yadav is related to the embezzlement case from the Dumka treasury. Lalu Yadav has already served half the sentence in this case.

The court had scheduled a hearing in the matter on Friday.

It was expected that he will get the bail today after serving half the sentence. Lalu’s lawyer Debarshi Mandal said that the court had scheduled  hearing on the matter this Friday.

Lalu’s case was listed before the bench of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh in the Ranchi High Court.

Lalu Yadav’s bail petition has been deferred till November 27

Mr Yadav’s legal team has applied for his bail as he has already served half the sentence in his case. CBI was opposing the bail for this hearing.

The case pertains to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore from Dumka treasury when Prasad was the chief minister of undivided Bihar.

CBI sought time from the court while filing a counter affidavit on the bail petition in this case. Due to which the High Court deferred hearing for Lalu Yadav’s bail petition till November 27. Currently, Lalu Yadav is undergoing treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi.  Lalu Yadav is also suffering from 16 kinds of diseases.

Lalu Yadav has been convicted in four cases of fodder scam.

In his petition filed for bail in the Jharkhand High Court. he has also claimed to have 16 types of diseases including kidney, heart disease and sugar on behalf of Lalu.

Lalu Prasad’s was represented by his lawyer Kapil Sibal.

CBI has sought more time to file a written reply in this case. After the postponement of the hearing, now RJD supremo Lalu Yadav will have to remain in jail at-least till next hearing.  Lalu Yadav has been convicted in four cases of fodder scam, out of which in three cases he have already been granted bail in two cases of Chaibasa and one in Deoghar.

Lalu Yadav’s Family members, supporters and Party workers were expecting him to come home this Friday but now have to wait for few more days. The court session was held virtually and Lalu Prasad’s was represented by his lawyer Kapil Sibal. He argued that  the ailing RJD chief is currently undergoing treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi and  has served more than half the sentence that was awarded to him in the case and urged the court to release him on bail. Sibal told the court that Prasad has already spent 42 months and 26 days in the judicial custody out of total seven years of jail term in this case which is  more than half of the total sentence time.

On the next date of hearing, the court  had sought details about medical treatment given to Prasad and also those meeting him in RIMS .
